Summary

The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) has the main goal of enhancing the life and health of people across the country. Established in 1969, SAMRC continues to be dedicated to research, development, innovation, and technology transfer to reach this main goal. The scope of research conducted by SARMC consists of clinical research, laboratory investigations, and public health studies. The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) is inviting students to apply for their scholarship programme, for the2024 academic year.

Funding details

The scholarship is valued at R401 000 and will cover student for 2 years. The scholarship will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, a laptop, a monthly stipend for accommodation and living expenses and reasonable support (upon motivation) to engage in/ present your work at a relevant national conference within your second year. Successful candidates will be contacted. Eligibility criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying for thisbursary(please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered): You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident in South AfricaYou must be femaleYou must have completed an Honours degreeYou must intend on studying full-time towards a Masters Degree in Biostatistics/ StatisticsYou must intend on studying at a recognised and accredited University in South AfricaYou must meet the admission requirements of the MSc study programme or you must have been offered a place at a South African University before applying to this awardYou must demonstrate a strong background in Mathematics, Statistics, Demography, and any other quantitative fieldsYou must agree to SAMRC’s scholarship terms and conditions (listed on the bursary application form)You must not be engaging in any other scholarship/ bursary/ grant/ remuneration (in cases where receiving such financial support binds you to enter service at another organization without prior consent from SAMRC)Preference will be given to candidates who have been offered a place at a South African University for Masters of Science studies
