Summary

Royal Bafokeng Platinum Ltd (RBPlat) was formed due to a joint venture between Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH) and Anglo American Platinum, known as the Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine Joint Venture (BRPM JV). However, the history of the company dates back to the 1860s when Royal Bafokeng Nation (RBN) purchased land. RBPlat is a miner of mid-tier platinum group metals (PGMs), including six pure metals: platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), rhodium (Rh), iridium (Ir), osmium (Os) and ruthenium (Ru); as well as gold and base metals such as nickel, copper and cobalt. The operations are near the town of Rustenburg in the North West province of South Africa and immediately south of the Pilanesberg Complex.
