The Department of Human Settlements (DHS) is a sector of the South African government which is responsible for creating national housing policy, norms, and standards to facilitate sustainable, integrated human settlements. The DHS aims to provide access to services (water, sanitation, electricity), security of tenure, and economic opportunities. The department works with provinces and municipalities to deliver housing, upgrade informal settlements, support the gap market, and release public land for development, aiming for integrated communities where people can live, work, and play. The Department of Human Settlements is inviting students to apply for their scholarship programme, for the2026 academic year.

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered): You must be a South African citizenYou must have completed Matric with exceptional matric resultsYou must intend on studying towards an undergraduate qualification within one of the Human Settlements-related fields listed aboveYou must be accepted or provisionally accepted to study at a recognised and accredited institution of higher learning in South AfricaYou must NOT have completed any previous tertiary qualificationsYou must be in financial need
